Alicia Keys Hair Transformation
At a performance back in 2000, Ms. Keys gave us retro to the fullest. Her super-sized afro puffs solidified the fact that we wouldn't forget her face or her name.

Going back to her braided style, Alicia spices it up a bit by keeping the cornrows diagonal and sweeping them into a side ponytail.
Though this isn't too much of a departure from her normal look, it brings an element to this style that we haven't seen before.

Taking a step in the sophisticated direction, Alicia decides to pull her hair off her neck in her version of a chignon. She keeps it edgy by leaving the braids in the front and rocking a not-so-subtle studded-out eye.

Before stepping into the role of motherhood, Alicia had a lower-maintenance bump to deal with.
By adding the pre-Snooki style to her 'do in 2003, she made sure we would never get bored with her look.

The diva keeps us on our toes with this sexy look. Alicia slicks her famous locks away from her face. Not only does the style keep her looking fresh, but the tight pony automatically raises her eyebrows, creating an instant facelift.

In her most gentle look yet, Alicia surprises us by removing the braids and going for something completely different. Not only is this hairstyle a huge departure from the starkness of her braids, it also completely softens up her look.
She went for these bouncy curls while announcing her tour with Beyonce and Missy Elliott back in 2004.

Bringing an update to this usually harsh 80s style, this lovely lady wears her fingerwave with ease. It's prominent enough to make you notice, but not gelled enough to make her hair appear hard.
She wore this perfectly balanced look to the 2004 Grammy Awards.

Alicia adds a little spice to the classic Shirley Temple curls. These tightly-barreled curls give the illusion of a haircut without the scissors. She tops this cute style with a funky fedora at the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival.

Alicia uses the Carlos Miele Fashion Show in 2005 to channel her inner supermodel. Putting her hair in an effortless ponytail and adding the bright orange headband brightens up her skin and takes years off of her face.

The sultry songstress used the 2008 Grammy Awards to show us just how classy she can be. The high, tight bun pulls together an already winning look. It is the perfect way to show off the sexy neckline of the dress.

Hmmm, this is disturbing to me. Alicia has a head full of hair, yet she is wearing that tacky a*s rug on her head. What is wrong with my sistahs? When did we become so fake? I'm especially talking to black American women. Black women use to be very proud to step out looking naturally beautiful. We wore very little makeup, if any and we took pride in taking care of our hair.
It's apparents that the influx of foreigners into the country has made black women feel that we can be fake because so many others were. Women from Africa and the Caribbean has always been geared towards that European look. They bleached their skin and worn synthetic hair often. Black American women quickly got lazy and picked up on the trend. Comb your hair sistahs. Allow your natural beauty to shine through. A small amount (if any) of makeup should suffice. We are proud black American women...Conduct yourself as such

Most women are very beautiful. Don't get confused with the skin color.

Haha, I wouldn't say "most" females' are beautiful, otherwise they wouldn't be so special when you find one, but I do agree with you when you say regardless to skin color. Bi racial is probably so liked because it's a great mixture of light and dark skin.

From Braids to Bombshell?? The title indicates that woman who wear braids are not bombshells. Let's not always pattern our beauty after others'. Alicia looks BEAUTIFUL with braids. The title should be more like... From Braids to Bad Wig/Weave!!

Cinnamon, I agree with you 100 percent. The writer was going for alliterative effect, but in doing so, implied that braids are not beautiful.
While Ms. Keys is stunning, with or without the braids, her wig looks like a mop. I simply cannot understand why my fellow Black women wear these wigs 24/7. I can understand if the woman suffers from severe patchiness, baldness, etc. But, what kills me is that those with perfectly beautiful and healthy hair choose to hide it under a rug. If you want a change or a day off once in a while, then go for it; but, it's become a lifestyle for many.
Don't even get me started on the fake nails and loud jewelry. Ladies, nothing but nothing, can ever compete with your natural beauty. Enhance it with light makeup, a light color nail polish, or other appropriate enhancements, but these over-the-top styles are clownish. Your man is not telling you this, but they are.

You took my words and I stand in agreement with you. "Braids to Bombshell" implies until she "whitened" her hair she wasn't a bombshell. Bad choice of words. Bad choice.

I don't much care for those wigs. Not even the ones that have the clear skin tone fronts that have baby hair stuck to it.. I forget what they are called. It's expensive, but it doesn't look natural to me. it is easier for many actors and celeberties to ware wigs because of their job and the hardship their hair goes under within their profession. It is easier to take care of for you and I, but it just doesn't look good for real.
