With heat advisories and record temperatures across the country, it's hard to go anywhere without looking like a melted, frizzy mess. The humidity in the summer air causes the cuticles in our hair to expand, which results in the frizz effect we all love to hate. Thankfully, there are a ton of hair products for every hair type that can help fight the summer humidity. Check out some of Black Voices' favorites.
For Straight Hair: Straight hair can be the hardest to maintain in the summer time, but Pantene's Frizz Control Smooth Creme ($6, drugstores) helps tame the frizz and flyaways throughout the day.
For Natural Hair: With no processing or chemicals, frizz can be especially common in natural hair. Try Smooth 'n Shine Polishing Gellation ($3, drugstores) to keep the humidity at bay.
For Curly Hair: Because of the curl's shape, the effect of humidity on curly hair's cuticles is greater than other hair types. Ouidad Climate Control ($22, Sephora) was created specifically for curly hair. The product hydrates and keeps your 'do smooth thanks to a wheat protein that shields hair from heat.
Before a Blowdry: Aussie's Sydney Smooth 12 Hour Anti-Humidity Hair Spray ($3, drugstores) contains a silk protein that keeps hair cuticles smooth. Apply this product to your hair while it's wet before blowdrying or diffusing.
For a Finishing Touch: Kiehls Climate Proof Shine Enhancing Spray ($16, department stores) has been around for years and is a great product to spray on after styling your hair to keep hair and frizz in place while also adding a healthy, shiny sheen.
For a Mid-Day Touch-Up: Many women swear by John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum ($6, drugstores) and the small bottle is perfect to tote around so you can pull it out in the middle of the day when you need to tame those flyaways.

"The humidity in the summer air causes the cuticles in our hair to expand, which results in the frizz effect we all love to hate."
Well, first of all, the "we all" you are talking about are black people only. Second, why do blacks try so hard to change or cover up their kinky, frizzy hair? Isn't that a form of self-hatred? Or, just an admission of how ugly black features are? Well, which is it?

How the hell do you KNOW if Black people try so hard to change their kinky hair? WE EMBRACE our VERSITLE BEUATIFUL HAIR WITH LOVE AND PRIDE and WE HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE!!!! Why should Black people be ASAHMED in what GOD GAVE US!!!! There are SO MANY POSSIBILITIES my BEAUTIFUL BLACK PEOPLE can do with their hair? All hair is beautiful of all races but, if you want to go there, your people too have kinky and straight hair too? EVERYBODY of ALL RACES is blessed with their own hair. There are Caucasian woman and other races trying to get that full poofy hair and dyeing their hair to look darker with their MATHCING DARK TAN SKIN. The list goes on, and on, and, on,..... WHO CARES? Black people, green, yellow, red, it don't and other races do the same thing too. EVERYBODY has different hair textures, different color shades of hair! GOD WANTED for all of us to be UNIQUE and have BEAUTIFUL HAIR! What would this world if we just had ONE TYPE OF HAIR? It would be so TIRED and BOREING as hell!!!! Just like YOUR TIRED BEHIND IS RIGHT ABOUT NOW!!!!
You probably bald like a BALD AZZ EAGLE and have WRINKLED UP SKIN. Instead of you hatin on Black People on BV, shouldn't you be looking online and ordering some ROGAINE? YOU INSANE, CRAZED, DERAINGED LUNI! HOW YOU DOIN? Nothing wrong with Black People's feature or skin color? We don't crack, we have voluptuous beautiful lips full or not full to give SWEET KISSES TOO! Our skin is so flawless, smooth, vibrant, and look WE COME IN DIFFERENT SHADES OF BROWN and our skin color can be FAIR just like you? I am proud of my Black Roots and I don't HATE ON NOBODY but PEOPLE LIKE YOU who always HATING, GETTING OFF SUBJECT, and are DISTRACTIONS, PREDJUCE, A RACIST, and SO GOD DAMN IGNORANT!!! Everybody in this world is BEAUTIFUL except for YOU and people like YOU! :-(

Yeah Bill,
I know your DUMB and BLIND? Did you see the products in the above ^ pics? The answer is NO! You only wanted to read what you wanted to read which was, the title of this blog "Beat the Heat & Avoid the Frizz" and give your opinion isntead of READING and LOOKING at the WHOLE ARTICLE! Some of these products are also used for WHITE PEOPLE'S HAIR and people of all race. I know you konw the commercials like Aussie and John Frieda? Look likes not all Blacks have frizzy hair, hugh? I don't remember BV saying that these products were for BLACK WOMAN ONLY and that BLACK WOMAN were the only one with FRIZZ PROBLEM? If you look DUFUS, BV was showing differnt products for ALL HAIR TEXTURES not just for BLACK PEOPLE! People like you need to stay the hell off of BV becuase people like you like to go off topic, LAZY and DON'T READ what the blog is really about, and starts ISH up on here! OK! So you know what you can do with that one!
Just because the "TITLE" said "Beat the Heat& Avoid the Frizz" doesn't mean that this is blog is just for BLACK PEOPLE and that ALL BLACK PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH FRIZZ HAIR? There are a lot of BLACK PEOPLE MEN AND WOMEN that wear their hair NATURALLY or just don't have FRIZZ PROBLEMS! To each it's own on what they want done to their hair and what they PUT on their hair! OK!
Once again, you are the ignorant disrespectful prejudice person up here to be talking down to Black People! It's like me saying, there is nothing worse seeing a white person with wrinkle skin and thinning bald hair, freckled skin, damaged skin from the RAYS of the SUN to look darker, or USE of a TANNING BED to get darker, getting BOTOX INJECTIONIONS to get wrinkle free, and last getting LIP INJECTIONS! People need to leave those lip injections alone and stop JACKING UP THEIR LIPS, looking like the "JOKER" or looking like they got PUNCHED in the mouth? All just to make their own lips look FULLER!
The TRUE FACTS about tanning is that it can cause Cancer! A HEALTH ISSUE! Thank God they TAX so people will STOP, WAKE UP, and ACCEPT their own skin color. You were talking about Black Features which most of what you said in your stupid azz comment was IRRELEVANT to this BLOG but I wanted to answer. So please don't tell me about Black People having the worst skin and frizzy hair! You wished that you had a choice to be what shade you want and had HAIR? That is the problem? For your info, BV is for EVERBODY, not just BLACK PEOPLE. EVERYBODY can use good tips, advice, and IDEAS! The good tip of the day for you is to KEEP IT TO YOURSELF, advice, READ before making any more STUPID AZZ COMMENTS, and it would be a GOOD IDEA for your to go elsewhere with that!
RIGHT BACK @ your SORRY BEHIND!!! :-(

Generally it takes a variety of products sometimes to tame the frizz. The keratin treatment or Brazilian blowout it also very good. Sleeping on silk pillowcases as well really helps.
Stay beautiful...keep hairstyles fresh, prevent frizz & split ends all while you sleep. "EssenceofSilk.com" has the best prices & selection.

nice product recommendations!
i just want to come in and say that i personally use Kinky Curly Curling custard on my natural hair every week to prevent "fuzzy fro" lol. i love my natural hair! But the KCCC helps my cuticles lay down like the article said, which makes my coils and naps smooth! still curly and afro-y but SMOOTH! i can wear an afro all WEEK without having to reapply product. and i look presentable all day! love it!
Check out this video for more help (on how to apply any sort of gel) http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/super-kinky/eco-styler-gel-wash-n-go-how-to-video-with-mahoganycurls
my hair is WAY more afro-y than hers but it's the same idea. ONE LOVE :)
some pics (again, not me lol) but yeah http://www.naturallycurly.com/curly-hairstyles-pictures/view/very-short-hair-styles--shrinkage-6828.html
