Going off to war must be terrifying and strange -- being a soldier in a foreign land, sent to fight a war and simultaneously establish peace and order in the world. When you're living with those circumstances, small comforts and reminders of home can go a long way in boosting your morale.
For African American female soldiers, there's an extra concern -- maintaining their hairstyle in the midst of a tour of duty.
Thankfully there's the Sister Soldier Project, a charity group that sends hair care packages to these brave women in uniform.
TheGrio.com revealed what happens behind the scenes at a "packing party," where volunteers put together 200 packages of relaxer kits, magazines, bath and body products, and letters from elementary school students. The charity has been honored with the Veterans Braintrust Award as a symbol of appreciation for the actions.

Visit SisterSoldierProject.com to support the cause -- you can identify a specific soldier to send your shipment to, or just support the charity as a whole by clicking here. Brands currently affiliated with the Sister Soldier Project include Dr. Miracle, Lusters Pink, Organic Root Stimulator and SoftSheen Carson.
If you're a beauty brand interested in supporting this worthy cause (perhaps for the soldiers who are interested in maintaining natural hairstyles?), or a sister down to support your sister soldiers by hosting a packing party, e mail info@SisterSoldierProject.com.

The word is ridiculous. Before you insult someone please you use the spell check. I don't find Sister Soldier project to be "pathetic" or "ridiculous". What I do find "ridiculous" is your post.

They are women first and then soldiers. These women are brave to fight for you, me and the lives of others. Why not support them to keep their moral lifted. You keep yourself maintained with with a fresh haircut or whatever keeps you looking good. Why not them. Why are you so insenstitive? Put your life on the line daily and I'll send you whatever product you'd like.

I think it is a wonderful program for our "sister soldiers". I am an Army wife and it is difficult for me here in Germany to maintain my beauty regimen. Our soldiers deserve the best. And if taking care of their hair so that it doesn't fall out will make them happy and better soldiers, than I am on board.

That comment is ridicolous. I am a soldier and haircare is very important! Yes even in wartime. If you did not know there are regulations that our hair has to follow. So if our hair is really Nappy (hard to manage) it is difficult to follow these regulations and be considered "in uniform". Our hair must always present a neat appearance. We are willing to give our lives if needed. The transition from theatre to civilization is hard already why should we have to lose our hair as well.
