During her time in the spotlight, fans have seen Chrisette Michele go from short and coily to long and sleek, with stops at just about every color, highlight, and texture in between. But it's her most recent style that's making headlines. Chrisette Michele just cut almost all of her hair off, and is currently sporting a super cropped 'do that shows off her gorgeous features to spectacular effect.
In an interview with Afrobella.com, she explained the motivation.
"My hair and I had a really bad argument. She was being sprayed with alcohol and burnt with irons... She was being over processed and yanked and pulled by weave strings and suffocated by glue. She told me if I didn't straighten up and fly right that she was leaving. I was out on tour, and day after day of this torturous regimen I began to feel like I was hurting myself. I wasn't being fair to my body. I was ingesting and supporting harsh products and literally ruining myself beginning with my hair. I told my band and tour family that when we all landed home in 6 weeks I would apologize to myself and begin a new relationship with myself beginning with my hair. The boys took me to their favorite barber Manny over in Sherman Oaks and applauded my decision to be honest with myself and showcase what I believe is beautiful. I'm proud of myself. I know that there is a place for my beauty in this world and I plan to celebrate who I am, beginning with my roots. I had about a 1/2" of new growth but I wanted to go lower like my mother's hair as well as my make-up artists hair. The boys told the barber "She wants a Number 2 clipper!!! And fade it out on the edges!!! No Hard Line!" and I said "No, shape me up some."

Chrisette also gave a detailed interview to CurlyNikki.com where she went into even further detail about her plans for her hair, her feelings about doing the BC (that's Big Chop for you natural hair newbies), and offered advice for anyone considering the same.
Curly Nikki: What would you tell someone toying with the idea of transitioning or Big Chopping?
Chrisette: Do what's best for you. What is your heart saying? Follow it. We are incredibly beautiful, us curly girls. Let's be proud and supportive of each other. To be quite honest I'd have to say...are you ready for what I'm about to say? Ok... Don't be one of those girls out there who have our beautiful curls but wear no smile, head is down, ain't got no presence! Give it! Cat walk down the street! Rock that hair with the fiercest of outfits. This is not just a spiritual journey, it's an incredible fashion statement that not everyone can wear! Treat it like a manicure or a new Prada bag and be the most amazing diva on your block. This beauty is fierce and it's ours naturally! Let's make each other proud! Amen?!"
Chrisette gave one bit of advice I found especially pertinent.
"Tell my sisters I said "smile!!!!! at!!!!! each!!!!! other!!!!!! often!!!!!"
So I'm passing that message on. Too often we look at each other with judgment and make negative comments about each other's beauty. Spread love!

I like the Natural short look on Michelle. I think her hair has always been short? In her videos, people are used to seein her with long weaves and with short hair styles extensions? Nothin wrong wit weaves or extensions but, it's nice to see different artist be real, natural, and do what they feel from their hearts. Michelle has beautiful eyes that stand out and can sing. A lot of woman our insecure about their roots and want to blend with what the world wants them to be. Love your hair and love yourself more. A lot of woman have insecurities of the way their hair looks and need to let that go. Woman need to be more confident and true with one self. We as woman need to appreciate our hair more and self, need to compliment each other more, be proud, and smile :-)

Hip hip hooray for Chrisette! She looks so awesome! Not everyone can pull off a very short "do", but she certainly can. I applaud her because she got rid of the extensions and the weaves. Nothing wrong with either of them, but sometimes we sisters seem to try to copy the white women with the long hair. We should not do that, and nor should we ever feel within ourselves that we are less than we are because our hair is short. Back in the early 1980's when I was in my 20's I sported that look as well and was looking good if I say so myself. LOL People should also know that some women wear their hair short because they have no other choice due to Alopecia which is loss of hair. And if we, as the most beautiful race on the planet would stop hating and hating on each other, we would be sympathetic to our brothers and sisters with this disease and not laugh at them when we see them on the streets. One last thing for all the African American women out there who hate other African American woman for whatever reason...stop it, stop it, stop it. Hater-Ade is just like Gatorade...nasty. Nuff said.
