Jill Scott. For her true fans, you say that name and visions of beauty dance in your head. Jill has become as known and loved for her radiant smile and her crowning glory, as she is for her music.

Lately her hair has been garnering much attention -- even right here on BVHairTalk.com, many of you expressed admiration for her style. Recently her stylist Felicia Leatherwood did a lengthy interview over on Afrobella.com where she explained how to achieve the kind of intricate styles seen of late on Jilly from Philly.

"Its a combination of hairstyles - cornrows and two strand twists. If you're good at cornrows, get one side perfect. Then the other side, you double strand twist with a little bit of Miss Jessie's, sit under the dryer and let it dry, then untwist a little and you're good to go!" she explained.

Even though these styles are familiar to many of us, Felicia does recommend going to a professional if you're trying to achieve the look on yourself.

As a stylist, Felicia understands that her clients want versatility, and excellent hair care. It's her preference to do two-in-one styles that can be flipped or accessorized for maximum versatility. She also is sure to take down tight and intricate hairstyles, because that can lead to pulling and eventual hair thinning or loss.

When it comes to products, Felicia had specific recommendations.

"I use Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding or Buttercreme on Jill, and I use this is an amazing product, you have to try it – LRC Concepts. It's got no parabens, and it's just incredible. I like Kinky Curly and Mixed Chicks on my mixed hair clients," she says.
