Is Shaving Your Head Age-Appropriate?

Last spring when Cassie shaved a side of her hair clean, people went crazy. Why, they thought, would a young girl do such a crazy stunt and make her head bald on one side? I personally didn't mind the look. In fact the cut made me notice one of Cassie's greatest assets: her perfectly arched eyebrows.

And it seems that many other celebs took note of the edgy look and its ability to frame the windows of your soul and show your beauty unfettered. Solange took it all off; Rihanna shaved her asymmetric cut even closer, LaLa Vasquez got a Cassie; as did Willow, Jada Pinkett Smith's daughter.

Then something strange started to happen. Not just for the young and sexy, or young and innocent, celebrity cougars started to get in on the act: Enter Mel B. and Toni Braxton. Hmmmm. Is this edgy, an honest bad hair fix, or are they desperately seeking youth eternal?

Mel B. just decided to change her look -- she is the Spicy one, after all. But Toni blamed it on a bad chemical and weave combo a la Pepa from the documentary 'Good Hair' (in it she tells that her infamous asymmetrical cut was the result of her hair falling out from coloring and relaxing). Damn. Toni used to be a hair icon!

Convincing many women-and men-that a pixie cut was the sexiest thing on the planet to wear. So to see her rock a "me-too" hairstyle-similar to one Jada's nine-year-old is wearing (which people say is too grown for her), makes me wonder, whose next? Janet? Mariah? Why can't they take a cue from Mary and keep it modern, yet age-appropriate.

Now I ask you BV Beauties, can a woman over the age of 35 who is not planning on co-starring in the next Alien shave half of her head and not be considered foolish? Share your thoughts!
