The internet is amazing, it truly is. It's the great equalizer. Gone are the days where a song or a book or a movie could come out, and the celebrity creator doesn't know what the general population is thinking. Thanks to the internet, you can speak truth to power.
Case in point, Chris Rock. Apparently he's been alerted to the chatter about his film Good Hair on the BV Message Boards... because he addressed the controversy and dissent today in an interview with Charlamagne Tha God this morning. Click here to listen.
Check THAT out real quick and tell me who's catching feelings.
Please note for the record, this hair blogger never said anything about wanting Good Hair to fail. I want black filmmakers to succeed, and continue to make more films that feature our community in a positive and balanced light. If I'm not mistaken, I do believe Chris and Charlamagne are talking about this thread on the BV Hair Talk boards, which was started by readers. So Mr. Rock please understand, this is the voice of the people who read this site. And there's much to be learned from their response.
I've seen Good Hair. And although parts of it made me cringe, I enjoyed Good Hair. Click here to read my review. And in retrospect, not only would watch it again, but if Chris Rock chose to make a sequel, I'd heartily applaud the effort...because there's clearly SO much to examine and discuss about this topic. If he worked with a female comedian on the topic (Wanda Sykes, perhaps?), it could be even more interesting.
What do you think about Mr. Rock's response? Have you SEEN the movie? I'd love to hear your views if you have. Comment away...apparently you never know who's reading!

The movie was ok, but I didn't like the fact that Chris Rock talked about how black women were high maintenance because of the cost of their hair care and products. White women are not exactly low maintenance when you consider all the money they spend on their beauty care needs, like botox, fake boobs, bleached hair and other cosmetic surgery that cost far more. Let discuss everyone equally and not just make a joke out of black women and their hair. Further, some white women wear hair extensions and hair pieces as well. Wigs were originally made for whites not blacks. The movie also seem to depict that black women can't afford to be upkeeping their hair, all the black women I know work and many are professional and they most certainly don't have a problem maintaining their hair.

African-American we should do the scientific research about our hair and inform Chris Rock. Hopefully he would do a MOVIE about the science. This would be more helpful for his daughters. He could start by going to www.youtube.com Journey of Man and The Real Eve by Stephen Oppenhimer, he can find this on line a;slo

Grow up. Black on black crime? A few posters responding to the trailers for his movie is black on black crime? Maybe we should do a movie on your life. I'm sure a few friends of yours would come forward to talk about who you scr@wed or how you live your life. That wouldn't hurt you, now would it?

Speaking of Black on Black Crime ...What about when Chris brought that sister in and took ideas from My nappy roots without telling her about his HBO movie deal. Is that Black on Black Crime? He's full of it, I'm just saying

The concept for this movie and the green light for its creation, and distribution was a phenomenally bad idea. The time has passed for this type of Geechie garbage. Enough with these "Mansion Dwelling House Niggas" coming back into the city to exploit regular folk with these low-down stereotypical images of the Black community.
Yeah Chris, white people own AOL/Black voices. Just like the white sponsorship of your brain fart film. Bet they were doing back flips when you brought this trash on their carpet. They just love you Chris! You, Tyler and Oprah are their favorite illegimate sellouts.
Hey, what ever makes a Buck right. Hey, after alll, you got a in-house Nanny and Butler to take care of.
I know... you could probably get Serena to do some Butt Naked sex romps in your next concept. She's being pimped for cheap too, can't beat that.
