The scarecrow has nothing on a woman whose hair has been beat up by the sun. This summer, celebrity hair stylist, DaRico Jackson gives us tips on how to keep our hair oh-so-pretty during these hot and sweaty months. Darico, a Mizani haircare specialist, has worked the tresses of many celebrities.
Is summer the most "dangerous" season for healthy hair? Why?
I wouldn't say the summer is the most dangerous.... In fact i tend to lean towards winter being the most damaging and summer being a combination of good and bad. The interesting thing about summer is that the heat from the sun puts your sebaceous glands at a high production level, which is wonderful for rehydration. But ultra violet rays from the sun can take on a drying effect which can cause the hair to be dry and brittle.
What are three of the most common things that women do to damage their hair?Three of the most common things women do to damage there hair, are 1) Excessive blow drying, 2) daily Thermal Styling...(yes IONIC TOO!) and 3) using the wrong shampoos and conditioners, i.e. if your hair is not chemically challenged, and is healthy, you DO NOT need excessive amounts of protein - this may cause the hair to become dry and brittle as well. A good healthy balance of both moisture and protien is the best approach!
What are three things we can do to keep hair healthy during summer?
The first thing on the list is Moisture.... not topically but internally, a great start is at the shampoo bowl with Mizani's Moisturfusion Ultra-Hydration System – an intense moisturizing treatment and moisturizing Shampoo System. This system is designed to restore the natural moisture with the assistance of a few essential oils, such as Avocado Oil, which will never dry out in the sun!... Secondly, find Topical Moisturizing cremes and pomades that offer UV protection. And finally, pick styles that require minimal Thermal styling to compensate for the "Hot" beating that the sun has to offer...
What is a good look for women who sweat a lot?
Good looks for women who sweat a lot are Natural Styles such as braids and twists. Also a host of Sets, such as Straw, Rod and Roller Sets are great in the struggle for good looking hair during the times of perspiration.
Does one have to cut off damaged hair or can you treat it without cutting it?
Damaged hair can be treated, but split ends have to be removed.
What is the first thing one must do if they suspect damaged hair?
The first thing you must do when facing problems in any other expertise, outside of your own, is consult a professional that knows.... CALL YOUR STYLIST!

I havent used a ionic or ceramic heating tool yet and i was always told that useing an ionic styleing tool is safe to use everyday and it wont damage your hair like the regular heating tools. But then, I just read in your artical that ionic styleing tools can still damage your hair if used everyday. Well, what about the ceramic styleing tools. Are they safe to use everyday?

No heat is safe to use everyday. Try to use it once or twice a week. I used to be addicted to flat irons and wondering why my hair kept falling out.
I cut my hair so short in May of last year (2008), that it could barely go into a pony tail. Now, it's past my shoulders and I didn't use any special tools, chemicals, products, or vitamins. I just limited the heat. Therefore, limiting the damage. I have a wonderful stylist who taught me a lot and made sure that I wash my hair once a week, protein treatment once a month, and told me straight up that my hair will never be healthy if I keep manhandling it.
Don't go to a stylist who doesn't have healthy hair themselves. At the salon I go to, everyone has long and healthy hair. Check out my stylist.

what are the natural, none chemical hair products that will straight kinky hair for black women without heat?
i came across about 3 of them. i have not tried them. in reading the descriptions, it appears that you would need a flat iron to straighten the hair. i tried to find what is so great about them. it appears that they loosen the tangles and kinks. if you know about the products, please tell me. but most of all, is there a such thing as an all natural hair product that will straighten or make the curls looser without chemicals or heat?
