For hair watchers, televised awards shows are the perfect opportunity to gorge on gorgeous hair, see the hottest trends and even get inspired. At this year's highly watched ninth annual BET Awards show, there was plenty to see as sisters came through with all sorts of looks, lengths and styles. Check out some of the flyest and most memorable. We rate them: Hair Do? or Hair Don't?!
2009 BET Awards Hair
Hair Do or Don't?
DO! Alicia Keys' hair not only looked sophisticated, but the soft, bouncy curls frame her face well -- and it looks healthy! We can't tell if this one is a wig/weave or not, but no matter, it works!

Hair Do or Don't?
DO! Amber Rose's unique, sexy ceasar is tres chic. The fact that a (black!) woman in the spotlight is wearing her hair this short is nothing short of incredible. The platinum takes it up even another notch of hot!

Hair Do or Don't?
DO! This is the best Deb Lee has ever looked in our humble opinion. The short sassy cut gives her enough pizzazz for her profession but still is appropriate for her age and standing as a CEO. Bravo Deb! Now about the show...

Hair Do or Don't?
DON'T! Keri Hilson, as usual, plays with a dramatic two-tone color palette, but in this style, it comes off looking more helmet than hot.

Hair Do or Don't?
DO! La La Vasquez' hair looks great -- and that dramatic side shave with the razor cuts in it works. Even though that cut is very rocker, she still comes off soft on the red carpet. It's pretty with just enough umph!

Hair Do or Don't?
DON'T! Not loving this. Keyshia, who has been wearing her hair short for many years, is probably looking for a change, but that part in the middle looks weird. Actually, this is the closest anyone came to Michael Jackson's hair for the evening, so two points there.

Hair Do or Don't?
DO! LeToya Luckett's hair is pretty classic here -- standard weave, nice cut, bangs. Nothing too dramatic, but nothing too horrible either.

Hair Do or Don't?
DON'T! We usually LOVE Taraji's hair more than cooked food but tonight it just looked too obviously wiggy. Not natural at all. Between the hair and her black dress, she could be Ruby Dee's contemporary.

Hair Do or Don't?
DON'T! This hairstyle (or should we say hairstyles?) is just all types of wrong. The bangs are one shade of blonde while that frizzy ponytail has another; it's just kinda sitting there to the side, looking cheap. Just say ONE (hairstyle) mama! Just one!
Arnold Turner, WireImage
Hair Do or Don't?
DO!...and DON'T Not to be going all Cain and Abel here, but the Mary on the left has a banging hairstyle, complete with wispy asymmetric cut , while Mary 2 is obviously having a bad hair day.

I was expecting more of the 2009 BET Awards show especially during the planned 'tribute' to one of the greatest entertainers of all time, Michael Jackson! Jamie was a bit over the top promoting his tour and BET should have eliminated the butt showing rappers like Li'l Wayne and Soulja Boy Go Tell Em...Tell HIM to get a belt and some education! Further, BEYONCE! Please! I'm no hater but her lingerie costume then 'faux' bridal attire singing Ave Maria??? What was that?? The outfit didn't equate with the song or the occasion! She's taken self-indulgence to another level. Ne-Yo was outstanding and the tribute to the O'Jays was excellent...O'Jays performance demonstrated why they have retained longevity and they continue to be a class act.

LIL WAYNE IS A DISGUSTING RUDE DISRESPECTFUL GREMLIN PREDATOR LOOKING CAN OPENER MOUTH TRASH CAN LOOKING VARMIT.
I AM TIRED OF SEEING THE IGNORANCE PORTRAYED BY RAPPERS SUCH AS LIL WAYNE, T-PAIN AND THE REST OF THAT UGLY BUNCH OF REJECTS.
IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE O'JAYS, TYRESE,JOHNNY,TREY,MAXWELL AND A FEW OTHERS THE BET AWARDS SHOW WOULD HAVE BEEN PURE CRAP.

I agree with most of what has gone forth on here. Excellent job/Tyrese, Johnny Gill, and Trey, again, excellent. Ne-Yo, I just love him. Excellent job Jamie Foxx, sort of unorganized and somewhat grasping for content. The O'Jays, awesome, just awesome, totally old-school, classy, longevity, just the happening! The Queen looked dynamic and did a great job, she has a lot of style and class. Mary, Mary a different twist, but not bad.
Jay Z, was alright, the other rappers were a complete, utter, hot mess. I mean, wow! Can we just do better? Drake however is cute, but that is about it,although he is new, he didn't bring anything new nor tasteful to the table.
Ving Rames, looks bad for some reason, his act seemed a little too serious with Tyrese
Tyrese and Tahraji did a good act. Alicia looked great...Great job to she and Wyclef Jean!
Debra Lee or whatever her name is: Is that how she really talks? Does she not know what to do with the program. I, too believe it is time for new leadership, she is one who settles, I think she's lazy, not ambitious or motivated enough.
Beyonce, is beautiful, is a hard worker, talented, but I feel as though she's going about it all the wrong way. The bible says, consider your brethren, she really needs to tone it down or something, something is going on whereas to it makes people indifferent of her or at worst, sick of her. Her contribution to the awards 09 was plain old irrelevant and self-fulfilling. Beautiful vocals, just the entire performance was inappropriate and out of place.
In fact, it was kind of scary. I don't know what she was thinking, but it sure wasn't about the legendary King, Michael Jackson...This is all just my own person opinion.
Thanks.

I agree with the general comments made about the show lacking taste and quality in general. But seriously, that is just BET. The problem is that BET lacked the organizational skills to turn this into an MJ tribute in the 11th hour. There would have needed to be constant communications with the artists and their staff and, yes, a script for Jamie Foxx.
To the Beyonce critique... Yes she is ghetto. But as a black woman who grew up in a white suburb, that is part of what makes her so much fun. She is the girl that is what she is. I can't go to a politcal function, the country club, or my boyfriend's parent's house saying things like "Shawty what yo' name is?" But I can do it dancing in my mirror at home. True, her song choice, performance, and attire had nothing to do with an MJ tribute. But at the end of the day; if you hate Beyonce, you hate yourself.

i thought i was the only one sick of beyonce. 'thank you, thank you. you can take the person out of the ghetto, but you can't get it out of beyonce. she's been out done and over exposed. i'd like to see kelly out there. she has talet, but no one is promoting her .....why?
all of a sudden it's like she's the only black female with presence.
