"Five seems to be the magic number, so take notes on what trends will be sizzling like the weather this summer!" says celebrity hair stylist Caprice Green. She gives Hair Apparent the long and short of what will keep you cute and trendy this summer.
Summer Hair Trends
Summer Trend: Bangs and Headband
Nicole Richie rocks two summer trends in one: bangs and the glittery headband "boho" style.

Summer Trend: Bangs
Jenny Lo-Lo wears her bangs in a classic fringe, which are a nice way of framing the face.

Summer Trend: Long Waves
If you yearn for waves like Alicia Keys, you can clip in a nice fall to get the look in a flash. Zuri makes an and affordable and realistic looking one, says Caprice Green.

Summer Trend: Ponytails
If you wear braids this summer (and many of us will), you can bring your braids back into a long pony and still keep it trendy.

Summer Trend: Bangs and Warm Color
Mary J. Blige, too, is going for more rich than brassy with her golden 'do. She's also got the long bangs going for perfect summer heat.

1. HEADBANDS
This trend is twofold -- Headbands are a spectacular way to spice up a classic evening hair-do, think jewel-tones, crystals, ribbon and double bands, or, go boho a la Nicole Richie. All are especially hot right now.
Also, headbands are also a great way to avert a summer hair catastrophe. You can whisk humidity-laden frizz right off of your face during a work-out or simply a hot summer day and still be style conscious.
2. Bang it out with BANGS!
Don't shy away from this trend because you're having flash-backs of your 3rd grade class picture! Relax, there is a bang length for everyone. Bangs are a perfect way to switch up your look and frame your face without getting a drastic haircut, be it the classic fringe (check out Kim Kardashian or J.Lo) or a bang with a razored texture like Rihanna.
3. Keep cool with a PONYTAIL!
Ponytails were all over the runways for Spring '09. This trend will definitely carry over into summer. Don't get spooked by the stiff, slicked-back, head-ache rendering ponytails of the past! Think volume with a slight pouf at the crown like the trendsetting Ms. Beyonce wore while promoting her new album. You can incorporate headbangs and bangs to create a fab ponytail that everyone will envy!
4. Long luxurious WAVES!
Now we ladies have all yearned for those long, luscious Alicia Keys waves....but now back to reality! Most of us are growing out last season's hot trend: that Victoria Beckham bob. Soooo, never fear....clip in hair is here!! I know you didn't think that all those celebrities didn't cheat a little bit. Well now you can too. Zuri makes an excellent inexpensive human hair "fall" that will keep your friends guessing.
I've saved the best for last.........
5. Rich, warm yummy COLOR!
Say good bye to the brassy blonde "streaks" from last summer, because you're probably still trying to repair the damage that hi-lites wreaked on your relaxed hair. Kiss those cool ashy winter tones farewell and usher in some warm all-over color and brighten up your face. Think golden browns, rich golden reds and sunny Mary J. blondes.
Personally I think Halle Berry read my mind with her newly golden bronze color.
Word to the wise....a) go slowly when lifting your natural color. If you start now, you can achieve your desired tone before summer, b) consult a color "specialist" before lifting chemically processed hair (steer clear of the box color! trust me, Beyonce got her color from a professional), c) insist on a protein treatment post color to seal that cuticle, because processed hair can be fragile.
All in all, have fun with your hair this summer! Read read read product labels and choose the best ones for your hair type, not just what the latest celeb is endorsing, so you can preserve your tresses for my fall predictions. :-)

Caprice Green was the personal stylist to Prince for many years. She has styled the tresses of Rihanna, Keyshia Cole, Nia Long, Mya, 3LW, Cherish and Teena Marie among others. Hit her up with your comments or questions at Hair Apparent!

I'M SICK AND TIRED OF THIS TYPE OF 'HIGHLIGHTED FASHION TRENDS' AIMED AT OUR COMMUNITY.
I'M ALSO SICK OF THESE DYED HAIR SELLOUT SISTERS AND SEEING THESE EURO-LOOKING AFRICAN DECENDANT FEMALES BEING THE HIGH PROFILE LOOK HOW WE HAVE 'MADE IT BIG' LOOK BECAUSE WE FOGOT OUR ANCESTORAL HISTORY, AND THE PLIGHT THEY WENT THROUGHT TO SURVIVE IN THIS NATION.
WE ARE STILL CONTINUING THE SEPARATION OF HOUSE AND FIELD SERVANTS.
WHY DO OUR AFRICAN/AMERICAN SISTERS NEED TO COPY THESE EURO HAIR TRENDS????
WHY DO OUR SISTERS NEED TO DYE THEIR HAIR THESE UNNATURAL COLORS?
WHY DO WE NOT SEE OUR DARK SKINNED SISTERS WITH THE STRONG AFRICAN FEATURES HIGHLIGHTED?
WHY DO WE CONTINUE TO LET A MEDIA THAT CONTINUES TO SEPARATE US BY GENETIC FEATURES AND SKIN COLOR TELL US WHO'S BEUATIFUL AND WHO IS NOT?
WHEN WILL WE, AS A PEOPLE STOP FOLLOWING NEGATIVE TRENDS THAT BELITTLE US, OUR YOUNG MEN WALKIING AROUND AS THUGGISH BRUTES IN MISFITTING SAGGY SHIRTS, DROOPY/SAGGY PANTS, THEY CAN'T EVEN WALK NORMALLY LET ALONE RUN BECAUSE THEIR PANTS BIND THEIR THIGHS
WHEN WILL WE START RAISING OUR KIDS TO USE INTELLEGNCE TO BE SUCCESSFUL CITIZENS IN OUR COMMUNITY WITH A LEVEL OF CLASS THAT CAN BE ENVIED INSTEAD OF RIDICULED?

This site is called Black Voices not Black and confused. The selection of popular hairstyles are very insulting to African American women (except for three of the styles). As a hairstylist there are many styles that are popular for our hair long, short, curly and straight styles. We all don't wear long boring ass weaves.
