Sherri Shepherd, the bubbly comedian and actress who co-hosts the daily estrogen-heavy gab fest, 'The View' is a wig girl. And she's not ashamed of it.
"It's like an accessory to me, like a hat or a bracelet," the daytime diva told Hair Apparent. "You can become someone else, and then you go home and take that bad baby off!"
Shepherd says that while many in Hollywood sport weaves, she found that the extensions damaged her hair. Also, she's more than happy to carry on a tradition now on its fourth generation in her family.
"I come from a wig family," she explains. "My grandmother had the wig heads, and we used to color the cork face lips in. It was at thing of being five years old and watching her go through this transformation. She would cornrow her hair, she'd pull the wig on, put on that hat with all the fruit and she'd be ready to go."

Shepherd says that her mother wore both an Afro wig and the Cher wig in the '70s and that her niece has been playing with her wigs since she was a kindergartener.
On 'The View' Shepherd works with stylist Lavette Slater who keeps about 30 to 40 wigs on the set. Slater is responsible for her many looks -- from "Amy Winehouse" to short and sassy – and that the wigs go from low end (synthetic) to human-hair wigs and falls which can cost upwards of thousands of dollars. She says the stylist not only purchases "ready to go" wigs, but also cuts and styles them.
Not surprisingly, Shepherd is coming out with her own line of wigs, Diva Belle, this summer, which she promises will be targeted to all ethnicities and pocketbooks.
"We really wanted to be affordable in this economy. I do want to be mindful of the fact that we are in a crunch and so don't want people to go, 'Oh it looks good but I can't afford it,' she says. Diva Belle is not just for your grandmother, she promises.

I am quite aware Beyonce wears a wig, The point I was making was she still has to pay someone to help her maintain them which probably cost her more than any of us make. It would probably be cheeper for her to go natural as opposed to paying thosands of dollars for wigs.(Beyonce wigs ain't cheap)

wearing a wig is not the sign of a lazy person. many women wear a wig while they are trying to repair their own hair. some times with braids, some times with extentions, some times with other hair styles under their wigs until their own hair is repaired. and some times even people with a head full of hair wear wigs. why? because they want something differnt, and may want to look a different way. yes, some times some women can go over board in colors and some have to much hair, but to each their own and we shouldnt be coming down on each other, after all, its just hair.

so you say its funny that people can spend money on wigs and cant find time to go to the gym or other places??? so what is that to you what people spend their money on. this article is about wigs, not about what women need to do or dont need to do and what some one choose to spend their money on. what is funny to me is that some of you cant stick to the topic.

KCN...that was a very dumb comment...
I just started to wear wigs not b/c i dont take care of my hair but b/c I like to try different styles w/o getting my hair cut to have that type of style...and yes sometimes when I cant get my hair done..I would put a wig on. Where I live, a lot of women are wearing wigs b\c it's costing too much to go to the salon..the prices have gone up and wigs are cheaper.
Even if you wear a wig...you still have to take care of your hair...your hair will break off..get damaged if u just wear a wig and not take care of your hair...and BEYONCE..wear wigs as well..
You must have an insecurity about yourself wanting to look like Beyonce.

Excuse me but I'm sick of you women saying "You can't afford to get your hair done. Last I checked hair curlers cost less than 5$ but, some of you admit to paying $50 or more on a wig. You women don't have one legitimate argument, just nothing but excuses. I challenge any of you horse hair lovers to go more than a month without wearing a wig.....if you can't I rest my case.

Sherri, could you please dress a little more lady-like. Your huge breasts are not supposed to be hanging out of your dress. It really is not a pretty site. From a lady with large breasts.
