A group of north Houston hair merchants have banded together and posted a $5,000 reward for the capture of weave snatchers!
Well, technically not weave, but hair from the popular Saga line, which can go for $40 to $100 depending on the length. Saga sells for only $25 a pack on the street -- get 'em while they're hot!
One owner, Matt Yi, was hit twice in two weeks when the thieves busted a hole in his wall using sledgehammers.
According to Fox 26 Houston, at least seven Houston-area stores have been robbed of the premium hair product in the last few months. In addition to soliciting the help of the Houston PD, some store owners have beefed up private security at their stores and raised more than $5,000 through Crime Stoppers.
Apparently, the recession is driving women who want to keep their hair tight to desperate measures. And someone is capitalizing off of it. I mean, I know girls in H-town like their hair to be "hot", but um, this is taking it to another level...

There are better ways to make $$$$. You don't have to steal. I hope they catch them in action one day and go to jail. I feel sorry for the hard small working business that try to help our communities and this is the thanks they get? Any kind of stealing is WRONG!!!!!! People that steal, GET A JOB! Stop taking the easy way out!

Why repeatedly spend money on weaves when you can invest in a lace wig that will last you up to a year (with good care). Plus weaves destroy your natural hair.

How about black women learning how to properly care for and style their own god given hair?

Amen to that Avril. I was one of those sistas who taught myself how to braid and sew in my own weave 4 years ago and in the process made my own hair grow. I will say one thing, the weave helped for my hair to grow very long past my shoulders. It is healthier than ever, by taking good care and maintaing it everyday. I was like, my hair can breath now. I was taking the easy way out by not wanting to maintain my own hair by using weaves as a cover up. I feel so beauatiful now without any weaves. I will say this, the good thing about a weave was, that it could stand any type of weather, the variety of mixture of color, and the hair was very versitle.
So women out there you can achieve a nice healthy look of your own natural hair by taking good care of it. LET THE WEAVES GO AND LET YOUR OWN HAIR SHOW! Women, can you imagine the $$$$ you will be saving and could add EXTRA in yo pocket! This is a recession & times are hard. Ladies SAVE and be SMART! I will support a beauty store but by buying ONLY HAIR PRODUCTS & ACCESSORIES.

As one poster said, weaves can be used as an intermediary while your hair grows out. But, the real plus is the low maintenance. I live in South Florida, and the humidity is a KILLER!. My hair never stays fresh for very lone, and that kills the pockets. And, what's wrong with a woman who wants to be versatile in her look? I love weaves for the simple fact I can change my look whenever I want; long, short, curly, natural, black, brown, blonde, whatever my mood dictates. It is just fun to play out my own fantasies; I can be EVERY woman. And, I don't do ghetto looks-I am a Ph. D. candidate who owns her own business, and presents a professionl, cutting edge look everyday. I love it.
