Hair Event: NYC's International Beauty Show

Wassup Hair Lovers!

As you've all probably guessed by now, I'm sooooo into hair:) So you can imagine how thrilled I was to be able to get a chance to check out the IBS hair show in NYC a few weeks back.

As I entered the doors, I was told that it was students' day (the 3rd day of the tradeshow, is reserved heavily for students who are in beauty school) and to expect quite a bit of "crazy" hairstyles...well that made my day...as I absolutely adore "crazy" hairstyles.

Moving from booth to booth, I saw quite a few images that were worthy of a shot!

The options of the types of hair used for weaving really caught my eye as I'm always looking for the next hair trend in terms of color, texture and weaves.

I also got a kick out of how they had mannequin heads set up so that stylists and students could test out the latest tools which ran the gamut from hot curlers to flat irons to unusual combs.

There were also quite a few "star stylists" demonstrating live techniques for onlookers--these presentations were full blown down to the wireless--Janet-Jackson-in-concert-headphones that the stylists spoke through as they shared their hair secrets and created hairstyles in living color!

Though much of this was quite thrilling, I did notice a general lack of Black folks at the event as well as edgy hairstyles......speaking of which, I must admit the biggest hair trend that I saw seemed to be 80's retro styles

as well as vivid streaks of neon colors

and purple hair-dye--it was everywhere!

Until next time......keep it shiny!
