Today, we will use the Textured Curl Rating System to rate shampoos, especially formulated for dry and flaky scalps. Seborrhea dermatitis, commonly known as, dandruff is actually the over production of sebum-- the natural oil produced by the sebaceous glands. When the glands over-produce sebum, the result is an over abundance of oils which then, dry up and can turn into dry flakes.
On the other hand, if you have large dry flakes and an itchy scalp, you might have psoriasis or eczema. At this point, you should visit your dermatologist for a diagnosis. These scalp conditions can lead to hair loss and it's very important to treat the condition medically. Dry hair should be treated very differently than dry and oily scalp conditions. Treat your scalp with a shampoo, especially formulated for dry and itchy scalp conditions. Treat your dry or oily tresses with a shampoo, especially formulated for oily, dry, brittle or over processed hair.

There are many definitions and symptoms commonly described as "scalp infections". There are in fact quite a few quite different reasons why your scalp may be sore, itchy, inflamed burning red or infected.

I've had oily hair since I was in Middle School/Junior High. For 20+ years, I used the same over-the-counter oily hair formula shampoo. Then, about 2 years ago, I tried using a variety of regular shampoos, but my hair would get oily and stringy by the end of the day. I had to wash my hair every day.
Then, my hair-stylist suggested the Tea + Protein Shampoo from the Made from Earth line. I was hesitant at first because I didnt think organic shampoos were anything special, but I decided to try it.
It took a few tries, but now I only have to wash my hair every other day! Hooray! Its a thick shampoos so it doesnt run through my fingers and down the drain before I can even get it onto my hair!
I saw a HUGE improvement on my oily hair - highly recommended if you are trying to have normal hair. To avoid overdrying, I use their conditioner also.

You should not use anything with Lauryl or Laurete Sulfate in it. It is a drying ingredient that is used in shampoos to give it a rich lather. Black people don't need anything that will dry out their hair anymore than what it already is!

Thank you Ms Da Costa for your excellent recomendations. I do love the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo & Conditioner. They feel so good on your scalp and boy do they get your hair clean and conditioned. The smell is wonderful as well. I love minty shampoos. They can be refreshing as well. I also love the Neutrogena T-Gell shampoo. It works wonderful as well. I have eczema on my skin and sometime it can be persistant enought to give me a little trouble with my scalp. Mainly it happens around my front hair line. I have chemical free all natural hair and have been so for 6+ years. My hair is super thick, course & curly at the same time. It is challenging enough to keep it moisturized and healthy. So I definately don't need any scalp problems to go along with that! Thanks once again and please keep the excellent advise comming! Peace & Blessings Always

I currently use Neutrogena T-Gel Shampoo on my daughter and my hair because of the scalp problems. (the one in the red bottle) I like it. The only problem that I had with Nizoral, I think that it dried our hair and made it a little harder to press. I go back and forth between the too. I have heard that B&B products have a great shampoo and conditioner for scalp problwms out as well.

Thank you for these hair tips, because I have very rough hair and Ive been wearing weave for about 17 yrs! My hair is very hard to tame, so any tips to get this nappy stuff in order is much appreciated! And does anyone remember about last month it was a posting about non-chemical and chemical relaxers? Well I was wondering if anyone can recall the name of the non-chemical relaxer that received the 6 curly coils! Thank you, have a blessed weekend!

This wasn't mentioned but I think Mane and Tail Deep Moisturing Shampoo is really good. I also like to use Kera Care for Dry and Itchy Scalp but not every week. I try to switch my conditioner every other week so that my hair doesn't get used to it.

FYI - Kera Care Dry Itchy Scalp conditioner is excellent. It has worked well for me and other people that I know. I have used the Kera Care Dry Itchy Scalp shampoo and conditioner, but I have found the the conditioner seems to be the item that has the best
influence.
Live Long and Prosper!
