Today, I will address all the product junkies in the house. Definitely! I am a product junkie and proud of it! Anyone else out there a PJ? Or are you a Product Wh...re? We want you to share with the whole community which products have worked best for your hair texture, too. PRODUCTS, PRODUCTS, PRODUCTS!
I've had every hair style imaginable, starting at the age of 11 years old, when I received my first relaxer and had my shoulder length hair cut into a chin-length style. You name it, I've done it. Relaxers: short and long. Color -- blacks to blondes and every color in between. Weaves, braids and locs, too. I think at the age of 18, I actually started relaxing my own hair with Revlon. I would also color my hair with Jazzing and Sebastian Cellophane rinses. I had a talent, you might say.
After receiving a Bachelor Degree in Marketing & Management, I decided to follow my dreams and become a professional hair stylist to the entertainment industry. Yes, I always wanted to be in Essence magazine... and that's just what GOD wanted, too! The road was not that easy and while building my clientele, working on celebs and owning and operating a 13 employee salon & spa, I can truly say, I know quite a bit about products. Today, I wear a natural, curly style with different shades and choices of color. That's what works for me. My natural curly texture gives me the versatility and flexibility to wear my hair straight with a ceramic iron, curly with some defining products and textured with curly textured sets. Check out more set styles in TEXTURED TRESSES, "Part II : How to Achieve It!"
I know... I know -- "Enough about ME Already!!"
What we all can agree on is that we are all in search of products that work best on our tresses -- be they wavy, curly, coily, relaxed, softened, texturized, braided, locked or weaved. The search for products is always on everyone's mind... I live breathe and smell great products all day long. I even started my own product line, TAI TEXTURE HAIR CARE, just because -- I had so many formulas floating around in my head for the longest time. So, rest assured ladies -- if there is a product out there, that represents any and all hair textures, natural or relaxed, braided, locked or weaved... You will definitely get it here! That's a promise. So hold tight -- more of the Product Hit List and The Curly Rating System is on its way! (Both coming soon...)
Now, let's look at the products that I have personally used on myself and tested on hundreds of clients, which are some of the BEST CURLY ENHANCING & DEFINING products on the market. Hold on relaxed girls! I have already written on several topics to address relaxed, softened and texturized girls for upcoming blog posts. Remember, I'm not against relaxers, I am just a big fan of HEALTHY RELAXED HAIR with body, volume and fullness.
SOME OF THE BEST CURL-ENHANCING & DEFINING PRODUCTS ARE:
Jane Carter Solution: Wrap & Roll - This botanical based holding, set and wrap foam is a multi-purpose liquid lotion. It can be used for setting and wrapping wavy or relaxed hair. And also used to hold, enhance and set wavy, curly and spirally coiled hair to create a natural looking curl pattern. After applying, smooth through with a wide tooth comb, sit under a dryer or diffuse the hair with a blow dryer and set the wave or curl right in there.
AVEDA: Humectant Pomade - This emollient gel will define, hold and create a great shine for wavy, curly and very coily hair and is also used to create twisted sets on natural, relaxed and texturized hair. It comes in a small jar so be prepared to use a lot of product, if you have full, thick or curly hair. I go through this product in about two-to-three weeks, when used every day.
Redkin: Spin Control - This leave-in conditioner will hold, create shine and protect the hair shaft from dryness. Best results are found with wavy and soft, smooth, curly hair.
Garnier: Sleek & Shine - This leave-in conditioner and holding creme creates amazing shine, and holds and defines frizzy, curly and coily hair. I have to say, this product works wonders on course hair that needs a little manipulation to keep the curls springy. You'll also find this product to be very affordable.
Ms. Jessies' Curly Pudding (Non-scented and color-free only) - This heavy pudding-like creme gives the best results on hair that is texturized through a chemical or non-chemical relaxing system (relaxing systems, coming soon in the CURLY RATING SYSTEM). If you want to wear your hair in a wavy or curly free & loosely-defined 'fro,' you'll like this product. Be prepared to apply a generous amount for best results as indicated on the instructions and to pay a high premium purchase price for a larger 16 oz unit.
Have you tried any of these products? Let me know which products work best for you in the comments below. This should hold you over until the CURLY RATING SYSTEM is out next week on chemical vs. non-chemical relaxing systems.

The best body lotion is by far either the Queen Helene line. I love their cocoa butter and the cocoa butter with mango lotions. Excellent moisturizers for the price. Also the LeKair Cocoa Butter Creme is great for extra moisturizing needs.
For the hair I love Pantene's Relaxed & Natural Moisturizer creme and even though it has a strong "mediciny" smell I love the Dr. Miracle's Temple and Nape Growth Balm in the Gentle strength.

Pubic hair removal can be painful and messy. I have the Hair eRazor which is painless, doesn't burn or bite or cause skin irritation. It works on any type of hair. The guys can use this too as it doesn't cause the lumps and bumps on the neck or "folliculitis barbae" that you dermatologist will tell you all about.

Another product that I believe would be appropriate to add to this list of great hair products are Khamit Kinks Hair Oils. Khamit Kinks hair oil are made with natural ingredients. This oil has been on the market since the late 1970's and has stood the test of time. It is sold at Khamit Kinks salon and can be also be purchased on line at http:www.khamitkinks.com

I too love the Revlon Realistic relaxer. There is an all natural color and conditioning line that was not developed specifically for black hair but it is absolutely the best I have found. It's called Surya and it truly is all natural and fabulous. The color can be applied same day as a relaxer, covers gray, and it is GORGEOUS. The shampoos and conditioners leave hair soft and smooth. I wish every black woman would try it. Also, for thick, coarse hair grapeseed oil is great for daily conditioning before using curling or straighening irons.
