I was asked by the Black Voices Producers to join the BV blog team and share my knowledge and expertise, as a 20 year veteran in the beauty industry. I am truly honored by the invite. I was cautioned, "We want it fun, witty and informative, Diane." "But of course, yes! Absolutely," I responded. Well, all I can say is, "I'll try not to bore you, if you promise not to bore me."
Some people look to me for inspiration, beauty transformations, beauty and hair expert advice and some just -- all out hair and mental therapy! Ikkes!!!
I can only promise you this... My expertise in the beauty industry ranges from being a master colorist, master barber and master cutter, to being a curly hair expert and product specialist -- taking your styling options anywhere: long, straight; relaxed, curly, wavy, locked, unlocked, braided, weaves, hair pieces, softened, texturized looks and back again to short cuts.

Leskeyaakim it depends on how long you like it.. i mean the normal ammount of hair growth is a half a inch a month.. and of course you have to grow out a relaxer you cant just get rid of it with out cutten it out... i mean if that was possible i would be in heaven.. so if you dont mind real short hair do the BC(BIG CHOP) and you wont have to worry about the 2 diff textures in your hair..

I'm looking for a good salon in Denver Colorado. My son has very curly hair and likes to have it relaxed. We've been to 2 salons - the first fried his head, the second wouldn't work with him on his 'look' - refusing to 'ruin' his hair. There has to be someone out there that understands and can help my son achieve the look he wants. Thanks for any help.

I have come to a fork in the road. After having my hair chopped off against my will in college (about four years ago), I began to wear sew-in weaves. Recently I've notice that the hair I usually leave exposed has begun to break off and is a good deal shorter than the rest of my hair. I want to begin wearing my own hair again, but because it is so broken in the front, I'm not sure if this means I will have to chop my hair off again and start all over. I do not want to cut my hair again! What are some good products I can use to grow the front of my hair back.....HELP?

My hair is extremely dry. I know using grease is not good on my hair and I hate how it weighs my hair down and makes it stif. I have tried other moisturizers, but it makes my hair nappy because my hair is pressed all the time. Any suggestions please?

Diane
I have been happily relaxer free for over 9 months. During such time I have been getting my hair pressed. Now, I have decided that I truly want to be "natural" especially after seeing all the georgeous styles available.I am actually wanting to have my hair stlyed simularly to yours! Most of the stylest I talk to either suggest a weave or wig, which is not what I am interested in. I live in Virgina, and have no clue as to where to go to have a professional who is knowledegable in gettin me started on the road to having my "naturally funky fro". I am also wanting to begin coloring my hair again as well. Please Diane can you tell a girl what she needs to do before I fall prey to the oops ,I shouldnt have done that hair club!
Thanks!

So, are you replacing the "I am my hair" blog? I have relaxed hair, so please keep us in mind! I would love to grow my dry, kinky hair out and be natural. Is there something that I can do w/out cutting all of my hair off?

My hair has been natural over ten years and I would like to colour my hair again. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience in which a colour was applied and made my hair straight. I was unable to wear my hair twisted or in any natural styles that required texture to hold. It was as if I had a perm gone bad. What colours or products can I use to assure that this will not happen again?
